  • Exchange of contact info, email address’ and dropbox info

At home

  • Select 10 images and upload them to our dropbox by midnight of Sunday 11 October.
    Each image size should not exceed 10MB.

Week 2/7
Tuesday
13 October

  • Image archive discussion
  • Start thinking about your concept and approach.
  • London Centre for Book Arts visit
    (Top-up at least £6 on your Oyster card)
  • 1. Write a one sentence statement about your concept.
  • 2. Write one to three sentences explaining your rationale for your chosen medium and relation to the concept.
  • 3. Research graphic designers/studios based in Europe and find one you really like.
    You can conduct your research in any way – through design blogs, magazines, books, exhibitions etc. You may take a look at the list of links from the Reference page on this website.
  • Send above 1, 2, & 3 (one designer or studio’s website) by midnight Sunday 18 October to: m.yamada@csm.arts.ac.uk

Week 3/7
Tuesday
20 October

  • Design studio research mini presentation
  • Feedback tutorial – reviewing each person’s concept and approach.
    (You will be able to reconsider your concept until the next class but no later than that.)
  • Comparative discussion of references, books and examples
  • Select the images you will be using for your project
  • Decide which medium you are planning to use in order to realise your concept (book format, video performance, etc)
  • Research the resources and facilities you would need to use for your project (materials, printing, equipment, etc)
  • Start working on your layouts. Print out your first draft layout and the images you will be using for your project (see "At class" on week 4/7).

Week 4/7
Tuesday
27 October

  • 1-on-1 feedback tutorials
  • Print and bring your first draft layout and the images you will be using for your project. The images will need to be trimmed to size so we can work with them more physically at this stage. We will be looking at how your image sequences would work with your concept and layouts.
  • Comparative discussion of references, books and examples
  • Start making a mockup of your project

Week 5/7
Tuesday
3 November

  • Group feedback tutorial
  • Make more mockups and keep refining them

Week 6/7
Tuesday
10 November

  • Final feedback tutorial
  • Bring a fully functional mockup (all content must be placed and sequenced).
  • Refine your project as much as possible.
  • Work on a title and a description of your project. The description should include your concept and process.

Week 7/7
Tuesday
17 November

  • Final presentation – bring your final outcomes along with its title and description.
  • Photo documentation for the class website
  • Party & Sleep
