More than a million words

by Viviana Garza

The concept of my work is how the human emotions can be expressed by just the "look" or the "grimace" in their faces. You don't need to see the whole face to know which emotion is his/her feeling. To explain this concept, I did a book (A5 size) with spiral binding with pictures of different portraits in black and white so the viewer could only concentrate on the gesture of the face and not in the different colors of the pictures, and also, the "look" in someone's face looks stronger on a black and white picture. Adding to the pictures, I did black strips to cover the look or the grimace in each picture so the viewer could see how the emotion is being expressed without showing their whole face. I did the spiral binding so the strips could be easier to move. In between the book, I used "breaks" with black pages when the next picture was with an extreme age difference. The breaks I used represented the years that passed in order to have age of the person in the next picture.
