Perception

by Sabrina Schmidt

My concept is based on the psychological inkblot test by the swiss therapist Hermann Rorschach. This book contains ten bilateral symmetrical pairs of inkblots, printed in black and white. Each pair consists of a negative and a positive picture. The viewers' perceptions of the inkblots are recorded in questionnaires and then analyzed using psychological interpretation. Diverse cognitions of black and white shapes are also recorded and shed light on the viewers´sensitivity, personality and affectivity.

The underlying assumption is that an individual will class external stimuli based on person-specific perceptual sets - this may include needs, base motives or conflicts. This clustering process is representative of the process used in real-life situations.
